Time seems to fly by sometimes, well that’s my excuse for not posting in 2 or 3 weeks and I’m sticking to it. As ever it’s been a pretty busy time for us here at Dream Guides, mixing work and play, so much so that its kind of hard to think what we have been up to.
It started (I think) with the PMSS group with our friend Seb Chivers and his work pals. I spent 3 days climbing Ice Falls with Seb and Nigel in and around Cham, meanwhile Guy was skiing the Valley Blanche with some of the others from the group. I also did a talk for them on Sunday night about my experiences of climbing with Sir Ran Fiennes. All of the group (40 in total) had a great time and we hope to see them back out here soon.
Straight after that I had a couple of days of ice climbing for myself before starting a hectic 12day period of work. It started with some photos with Jon Griffith before working safety with Ben Prichard doing some filming for Berghaus at Le Tour. Then it was in the car and across to Gressoney in Italy for 3 days with 1st Ascent (the UK importers for Black Diamond). This proved to be a great few days, the first being spent climbing ice before we having 2 wonderful days on the skis. If you have never been there I can highly recommend Gressoney as a venue for some really great off piste action….miles and miles of it with no crowds…it was bliss. The whole valley really has a lovely feel to it all, certainly a must vist venue.
After Gressoney it was back to Cham for some more work with a couple of day trips to Italy thrown in to mix it all up. The snow was generally good with cool blue skis above us. The days seemed to be blending into one long ski fest!!.
But like everything it comes to an end, and before long I was tying back onto a rope this time with Nick Bullock. We had a great day out climbing Les Brumes d’Avalon, which is situated near Morzine, check the video out!! It has a grade of III, 5, M5+, 6a, any suggestions to what that means are most welcomed!
The following day saw me climbing with Jon Bracey. We went Dry Tooling at Montriond (again nr Morzine), again a great day out with a long time friend.
Finally the last few days were spent with Charles and Neil working on the ice again. From never having ice climbed before they both quickly took to the whole thing, both were swinging about on a grade 5 by the end of the few days so well done to both of them. It proved to be a fitting end to a really busy period of time here in the Alps.
The weather has now turned and although its minging in the valley it will be putting heaps of snow down higher up, so we are all waiting for a break in the weather and get out looking for that perfect powder run!!
