The Italian Job

You have to flexible in the mountains sometimes. Just as we were getting the taste of climbing in the high mountains the weather gods stuck their noses into things and its snowed. Now thats not a bad thing, it just means we hang up our ice axes and brush down the skis. With a poor forecast for the Cham Valley yesterday the troops decided to go to Italy, Courmayeur to be precise. I had to go via the Dynastar factory to pick up some boots (thanks Guys) so I was a little late, but I picked up Peter Rostron from Mountain Hardwear on the way through and we were soon in the lift surrounded by some very fat skis. Over-head conditions were not too good, but the area has good trees and there was heaps of fresh to be had, combine this with the fact that we pretty much had the place to ourselves meant the day was going to be way cool. We teamed up with the troops after a couple of runs and then we had a few BIG descents to the bottom of the system in good untouched snow. It was all a wicked feeling after the knarley north face of the Grande Jorasses. After we had finished Peter was super kind and took myself, Guy, Steph and team Emmett out for dinner to finish up a great day in style, cheers fella. Today was a no brainer in terms of where to go, so I was back in the car early doors to meet the herd again in Italy. Despite all the best efforts of everyone else on the road we made it there and were greeted to blue ski and knee deep snow WOOHOO. The first few runs through the trees were simply EPIC with face shots on almost every turn and that pristine snow thats a shame to disturb.....ah simply sensational. The day unfolded in the most perfect way with run after run in the fluffy stuff, even the traffic jam on the way home didn’t spoil it! There is more snow forecast tonight and it looks like it may be more of the Italian Job tomorrow, just need to find a roof rack for that mini. Kenton video
